What Competitiveness Covers
Why do some firms, cities and economies keep pace with change while others fall behind? Competitiveness is an independent blog that returns to that question from four directions, for readers who want clear explanations rather than slogans.
Four subjects, one thread
- Business Strategy
- Positioning, pricing, focus, partnerships and the trade-offs behind decisions that companies make under pressure.
- Economics
- The forces that shape markets: productivity, trade, inflation, investment and the policies that influence them.
- Innovation
- How new products, methods and technologies move from idea to everyday use, and what slows them down.
- Workforce & Skills
- Hiring, training, changing job requirements and the ways people and employers adapt to each other.
Who reads it
The audience includes managers, founders, students, analysts and anyone curious about how economic life works. Technical terms are explained the first time they appear, and charts or figures are described in words so the argument can be followed without them.
Our working method
Articles lean on primary sources where possible, such as official statistics, company filings, academic papers and public reports, and say where a claim comes from. Figures are dated, because a number from several years ago can mislead. Posts are updated when new data arrives or an error is found.
The blog reports and interprets. It does not recommend that any reader buy, sell or hold a particular asset, and where a piece expresses a view it says so plainly.
